FAFSA Application Schedule

Beginning with the 2017-2018 FAFSA application cycle, the FAFSA will have a launch date of October 1 rather than the traditional launch date of January 1. This earlier date of October 1 will allow the financial aid process to coincide with the college admissions process.

Along with the new launch date, the FAFSA’s tax year information collected from an applicant will come from one tax year earlier, otherwise known as prior-prior year. Applicants will use their tax year 2016 income information for the 2018-2019 award year. These changes will enable students and their families to make more informed choices regarding which college to attend and where funds will be obtained to pay for it. This should also eliminate the need for estimated tax information that later has to be updated.

To learn more about these changes, Federal Student Aid created an Early FAFSA information page on Information for Financial Aid Professional (IFAP) website to keep you informed.
